Latest AirAsia promotion to salute airline’s 30 million customers

SEPANG: Pack your bags folks, AirAsia is rewarding travellers with a ticket for a mere 30 sen.

In its latest promotion to salute the 30 million guests who have flown the AirAsia Group in the past five years, tickets start from loose change – 30 sen to Jakarta and Bandung.

Fares to international destinations like Bali, Bangkok, Macau, Hanoi, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Siem Reap, and Phnom Penh take off from RM30, AirAsia announced in a statement yesterday.

The AirAsia Group comprises AirAsia Bhd, Thai AirAsia and Indonesia AirAsia.

The booking period started from midnight yesterday and ends on March 18 for a three-month travel period spanning July 1 to Sept 30.

AirAsia said that all fares quoted exclude airport taxes, fuel surcharges and fees, and were applicable for one-way travel only.

Commercial Air Asia executive vice-president Kathleen Tan said that “The Grand Sale” was expected to stimulate travel with an allocation of half a million seats during the promotion.

“AirAsia guests have continuously exhibited high demand for low fares,” said Tan, adding that achieving the 30 million passenger mark proved that “low fares” ruled.

“We believe there are still many people out there who have never flown before and with our low fares, we can encourage people to fly and open up new first time flyer markets,” she said.

AirAsia is set to be an all-Airbus fleet by June. It currently operates more than 300 flights daily traversing 10 countries.

1 Million FREE Seats from Air Asia!

KUALA LUMPUR: A million seats are being offered for free as no-frills carrier AirAsia kicks off the new year with a big marketing bang that coincides with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

Valid for flights out of Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Johor Baru, Bangkok and Jakarta – booking has to be done from today to Jan 19 for travel between April 1 and Oct 27.

AirAsia executive vice-president (commercial) Kathleen Tan said this was the second major campaign since the one in 2005 when two million free seats were offered in conjunction with the airline’s fourth anniversary and introduction of its first Airbus.

All free seats will be available only for online booking (www.airasia.com),and on a first-come-first-served basis. The offer excludes airport taxes and fees, fuel surcharges, and is applicable for one-way travel only.

More than 80 routes across 10 countries will be available for bookings

“A RM2 million regional advertising budget is in place to aggressively promote this 10-day campaign in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Macau, China, the Philippines, Brunei, Cambodia and Myanmar,” said Tan.

“With 50 aircraft in place and more Airbus A320 rolling out this year, we have recently added more new points from our two newly set-up hubs in East Malaysia with direct flights connecting Sabah and Sarawak to Penang for the first time, new direct flights from Kota Kinabalu to Macau, Bangkok to Langkawi, Jakarta to Kuching and with our plans to expand further to Indochina region and Southern China, the timing is opportune,” she said.

She expected high internet traffic during this campaign period and tips are available on the website on how to best secure free seats, failing which super low fares are available.
Fly Asian Xpress (FAX) last Friday launched a no-frills long-haul service called AirAsia X to Manchester, Huangzhou and Tianjin which takes off in July, with fares as low as RM9.99 one way.
