BUTTERFLY-themed decorations and towering Christmas trees greeted guests and customers at the official opening of the Jusco Departmental Store at Queensbay Mall in Bayan Baru, Penang, on Satur-day.
A welcoming performance by members of the Malaysian Drum Sympho-ny set the joyous mood. The outlet is Jusco’s 15th store in the country and the first in Penang.
Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon opened the store by striking a gong three times during the opening ceremony.
The opening of the store at Queens-bay Mall, dubbed the largest and longest on the island with a built-up area of 232,257sq m, is expected to provide shoppers in the northern re-gion a refreshing new shopping experience.
The store, which is the anchor tenant of the mall, occupies more than 23,690sq m. A host of activities in conjunction with the opening of the mall and Jusco store has been lined up until Jan 7 for whole- some family fun and entertainment.

There is also a wide range of Jusco Selection home appliances and clothing from renowned Jusco brands such as Orange Sorbet, Agenda, Arcadia, Chic Avenue, Crème and Scarlet.
At the supermarket on the lower ground floor, Jusco has allocated a prominent area to highlight Barangan Buatan Malaysia (Made-in-Malaysia Goods) in support of local entrepreneurs.
Another highlight at the lower ground floor is the Arena Restaurant that features casual dining in contemporary setting.
Located on the same floor is the Smart Wonder World, a fun-themed amusement centre for everyone.
Among the shoppers at the mall were Christine Low and friend Liza Teoh who said they were happy that the mall had opened its doors.
“It provides a whole new shopping experience especially for residents in the south-west district.
“We are excited to hear some of the big brands are at the mall because in the past, we had to travel all the way to Kuala Lumpur to get some of the items,” Low said.
Aeon chairman Datuk Abdullah Mohd Yusof said in his speech at the opening ceremony that a total of RM38mil was invested in Jusco Queensbay, which provided more than 400 jobs for locals.
