Look No Queues

by Angela Sargunan

STRUT in style and glide through Mid Valley Megamall with your purchases this Christmas.

Cruise without the hustle and bustle of queuing up with MasterCard PayPass tailored for your convenience and with innovation written all over it.

MasterCard PayPass is an EMV contactless payment method that has earned global appeal with over 11 million card holders.

MasterCard Worldwide vice-president and senior country manager, Malaysia and Brunei, Jim Cheah explains that those with transactions of less than RM110 may pay for their purchases with a simple “tap ’n go”at a PayPass terminal.

It works like a traditional MasterCard card, but without the need to hand over the card to the cashier, swipe and sign.

“It is ideal for a traditional, cash-heavy environment where speed is essential, such as quick-service restaurants, movie theatres, petrol stations, convenient stores and parking garages,” he said

Mid Valley Megamall is the first mall in Malaysia to roll out the MasterCard PayPass at its “Your Sweetest Christmas Ever” yearend sale.

The MasterCard PayPass was officially unveiled on Monday by Deputy Tourism Minister Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai.

“Programmes such as the Year End Sale (YES) further reinforces the tourism industry’s effort to ensure that the country is able to create events that interest both local and foreign shoppers,” said Lim.

“With MasterCard PayPass, it will be simpler and faster than cash, thereby easing the customer traffic at the checkout counters during peak hours.”

He said that with Visit Malaysia Year 2007 around the corner, the collaboration among Tourism Malaysia, MasterCard and Mid Valley Megamall will be a driving force in attracting shoppers.

Shoppers can use the MasterCard PayPass at more than 200 participating merchants in Mid Valley.

Cheah said MasterCard has supported Malaysia’s efforts to position itself as a major travel and shopping destination over the years.

“It is relationships such as those MasterCard enjoys with Tourism Malaysia and Mid Valley Megamall that have resulted in the creation of special programmes and treasured moments to be shared with loved

ones,” he said.

In line with the festive spirit, MasterCard is rewarding shoppers with weekly prizes and a chance to win a ski holiday for two to Korea.

Cheah said: “Although Mid Valley Megamall is in the forefront of this innovation, MasterCard PayPass is in the process of negotiating with a variety of other merchant to make this product available to shoppers throughout the country.

“Currently, there are four participating banks – RHB, CIMB, MBF and Affin Bank – that have incorporated the PayPass feature to their credit cards based on request.”
