SNS News : Harvey Norman sets up retail outlet in Penang

PENANG: The latest technology products such as lap-tops, MP-3 players, liquid crystal display screen television and DVD recorders will spearhead sales at Harvey Norman's RM4mil retail chain store in Queensbay Mall here.

Harvey Norman South-East Asia managing director Angelo Augustus said the new store emphasised the latest “touch and feel” concept.

The retail chain offers a wide range of products from electronics, home appliances, computers, furniture and bedding under one roof.

Spanning about 20,000 sq ft, the store layout design allowed customers to touch and feel the products on display, Augustus told StarBiz.

Augustus said he hoped the outlet here would be able to capture a substantial market share of consumer electronics, bedding and furniture products in Penang in five years.

“Our strategy is to get our customers for consumer electronics items to also buy furniture,” he said.

Augustus said Harvey Norman chose Penang for its third outlet because of the state's booming economy and rising purchasing power of its population.

“This retail chain is also our first outside the Klang Valley,” he added.

The first RM10mil Harvey Norman outlet, measuring some 70,000 sq ft, opened in Ikano Power Centre in Petaling Jaya three years ago.

The second RM5mil 30,000 sq ft outlet opened in Mid Valley Megamall on Nov 6.

Next year, two new stores will open at Sunway Pyramid and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
