Sale that was a Taffic-Stopper

Sale that was a traffic-stopper

IT was not exactly the school holiday crowd that was building up at the Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur yesterday. In fact, there are two more days before the long end-of-the-year school break.

Traffic at a standstill on the Federal Highway yesterday morning as shoppers make a beeline for Mid Valley Megamall.Yet, traffic at entry points leading to the shopping mall was moving at an unforgiving pace, and it was a work day, too.

The bottlenecks were from all directions – Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur and Old Klang Road – with vehicles converging at the shopping complex.

At certain stretches, it took more than 10 minutes to move a few hundred metres.

The cause of the mind-numbing jam was traced to Jusco’s J-Card Members’ Day which beckoned shoppers with great discounts from 7am to 11pm.

Shoppers braved the chaotic traffic situation searching for bargains of up to 80% on offer at the Jusco retail store and the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre.

Even the struggle getting into the complex’s car park was no deterrent for the eager shoppers, in the beginning, at least.

“I am here with my wife to buy baby products for our first child. I am not sure about the amount that we have saved on our shopping spree today,” said K.S. Chin, who was spotted outside the Jusco outlet with a load of baby products in his shopping cart.

Shoppers also patiently lined up to redeem their cash vouchers at counters set up outside Jusco’s entrances after they had finished shopping.

Mid Valley’s parking and traffic attendants had to work at a punishing pace to divert traffic.
“I turned up late for work this morning. It took me 90 minutes to get here from Serdang,” said Desmond Khor, a promoter for SNS Network retailing IT gadgets at the Jusco Mid Valley IT Fair located at the exhibition centre.

In contrast, the visitors were thin at other outlets around the complex as well as the Mid Valley KTM Komuter station.
